We are seeking an enthusiastic and skilled Brass Tutor to join our dynamic Co-Curricular Music team from Term 3, 2026 (or by negotiation).

You will inspire students to develop their technical proficiency, musicianship, and passion for performance through high-quality instrumental tuition across a range of brass instruments.

You will join a supportive and collaborative Co-Curricular Music team, committed to excellence in music education and continuous professional growth.

Job Description

Music plays an integral role in College life at St Patrick’s College, with a strong emphasis on co-curricular participation through our Private Instrumental Tuition and Ensemble Program. Students are encouraged to develop their musical talents, build confidence, and contribute to the vibrant performance culture of the College.

As a Brass Tutor, you will work within this co-curricular program to deliver high-quality private tuition to students across Years 5–12, while supporting their engagement in ensemble and performance opportunities.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Provide high-quality private brass tuition to students of varying ages and abilities (Years 5–12).
  • Inspire and engage students, fostering a love of music and performance.
  • Prepare students for College concerts and recitals.
  • Collaborate with the Head of Co-Curricular Music and other tutors to support ensemble participation and performances.
  • Maintain accurate student records and provide regular progress feedback.
  • Contribute to the overall growth of the College’s vibrant Private Instrumental Tuition Program.

Desired Skills and Experience

Essential Criteria

  • A working understanding of, and commitment to, the Catholic ethos of a school in the Edmund Rice tradition.
  • Demonstrated understanding of appropriate behaviours and professional boundaries that reflect child safeguarding values in practice.
  • Demonstrated experience providing instrumental brass tuition to students of varying ages and abilities.
  • Strong musicianship and effective instrumental teaching practice.
  • Ability to inspire and engage students, fostering a love of music and performance.
  • Experience preparing students for concerts, recitals and co-curricular performances.
  • Ability to maintain accurate student records and provide regular feedback to students and families.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.

Desirable Criteria

  • Tertiary qualifications in Music and/or Education (or working towards).
  • Experience teaching low brass instruments.
  • Experience directing or supporting ensembles.

Additional Information

  • Tutors are engaged as independent contractors and must hold a current ABN.
  • This is a co-curricular role, with teaching delivered through the Private Instrumental Tuition Program.
  • Flexibility to support occasional performances and co-curricular events outside standard hours is required.
