St Patrick's College is seeking a highly organised and proactive TAS Assistant to join our Technological and Applied Studies (TAS) Faculty in a temporary full-time position for a five-week period commencing Monday 24 August 2026 and concluding Friday 25 September 2026. There may be a possibility of work beyond this block.
Reporting to the Head of TAS, you will play a vital role in supporting the delivery of engaging, hands-on learning experiences by ensuring practical lessons are well prepared, workshops are maintained to a high standard, and specialist equipment is safe, functional and ready for use. Working collaboratively with teaching staff, you will contribute to a safe, organised and efficient learning environment that enables students to develop practical skills across a range of TAS disciplines.
This is a varied, hands-on role suited to a self-motivated individual who enjoys working independently, has excellent organisational skills and takes pride in maintaining high standards of safety and presentation.
Job Description
As the TAS Assistant, you will provide operational and technical support to the TAS Faculty, ensuring the effective day-to-day operation of workshops, specialist equipment and practical learning spaces. Your responsibilities will include preparing resources for practical lessons, maintaining workshop facilities and equipment, managing stock and consumables, supporting teachers during practical activities, and ensuring compliance with Work Health and Safety (WHS) legislation and College procedures.
Key responsibilities include:
Preparing materials, equipment and teaching resources for practical classes.
Supporting teachers and students during practical lessons as required.
Maintaining safe, clean and organised workshop environments, including the VET Construction area.
Managing stock levels, conducting stocktakes and coordinating the ordering of consumables and equipment.
Liaising with suppliers and external contractors regarding equipment servicing, repairs and installations.
Maintaining and servicing workshop tools, machinery, dust extraction systems and specialist TAS equipment.
Monitoring the safe operation of workshop equipment, identifying hazards and removing faulty machinery from service where required.
Maintaining digital student safety records using OnGuard.
Assisting with the operation and maintenance of specialist technologies, including laser cutters, 3D printers and CNC machinery.
Supporting the Head of TAS in ensuring all workshops operate in accordance with Work Health and Safety legislation, standards and College procedures.

Essential criteria
A working understanding of, and commitment to the Catholic ethos of a School in the Edmund Rice tradition
Demonstrated understanding of appropriate behaviours and professional boundaries that reflect child safeguarding values in practice
Excellent organisational skills and high attention to detail
Ability to work both autonomously and as part of a team, problem solve and take initiative to negotiate conflicting priorities
Excellent communication skills; this role will require active communication with the Head of TAS, TAS teachers, other teaching and non-teaching staff in addition to students
The ability to identify and implement processes or improvements to increase quality, safety and efficiency in the TAS faculty
Proficiency in use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) in addition to IT based systems for stock ordering and calendar management
Possess a current and valid NSW Class C Drivers License.
